Position Summary:
The Communications Coordinator plays an important role in Omaha Performing Arts’ (O-pa’s) growing communications efforts, including media relations, O-pa’s social media and influencer efforts, PR planning for performances and institutional initiatives, as well as O-pa's new Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement, opening in March of 2026.
Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Communications Coordinator contributes to O-pa’s social media efforts, oversees promoter and performers’ media needs such as interviews, reviews, media releases, and photography and videography, the creation of program books, and ensures O-pa programming and event information is available and accurate on local and regional information channels. Position Duties and responsibilities:
• Works closely with the Communications Manager and Director of Communications to support O-pa’s social media efforts, assisting with the management of social channels, monitoring content and responding to patron needs, and creating content.
• Takes the lead on planning, coordinating, and creating content for the Tenaska Center social channels.
• With direction from the Communications Manager, helps maintain the social media calendars, including drafting and scheduling posts.
• Coordinates, captures, and edits photos and videos for social media.
• Reports social media analytics and adjusts strategy based on KPIs for each channel.
• Contributes to O-pa’s influencer initiative, identifying and building relationships and coordinating deliverables.
• Cultivates relationships with members of the media.
• Works with press agents, promoters, and artist teams to create and seek approval for social media and press content.
• Works closely with outside promoters and O-pa staff to develop specific PR initiatives for ticket on sales, interview requests and reviews.
• Prepares PR and communication plans for performances with the Director of Communications.
• Researches, drafts, and distributes assigned news releases and other PR materials.
• Pitches and schedules interviews to promote events, providing all needed materials and accompanying artists to interviews as needed.
• Coordinates photographer requests for events, seeking approval from artist teams, informing internal staff, and sometimes serving as escort.
• Maintains online Media Center.
• Maintains and updates local and regional events calendars.
• Oversees management of media monitoring and archiving.
• Assists with Broadway program book creation, including content collection, timelines and communication with the shows and publisher.
• Assists marketing team with review and proofing of materials.
• Assists with the institutional copy guidelines for messaging and facts.
• Supports O-pa public relations and marketing initiatives as needed or requested.
• Attend meetings as needed or requested.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
• 2-4 years relevant communications experience.
• Experience managing social media platforms, including scheduling and reporting and experience growing audiences.
• Knowledge of social media and content creations tools and programs; the ability to film and edit compelling video content
• Proven ability to work on multiple projects and initiatives at the same time and flexibility to change direction quickly.
• Excellent proofing and writing skills with knowledge of AP writing style.
• Be self-motivated and place a high value on accuracy and detail.
• Possess a tactful, diplomatic, clear and courteous communication style.
• Must be an effective communicator (in conversation, on paper, and digitally) and work cooperatively with internal and external contacts.
• Knowledge of PR distribution and measurement systems and best practices.
• Occasional night and weekend availability required.
Minimum Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent for an accredited university or college preferred.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Required to sit for long periods of time.
• The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
