What you’ll do:
The General Ledger Accountant will assist in completion of all general ledger activities for the agency. This position involves preparation, analysis, interpretation, and maintenance of agency accounting records, financial reports, accounting procedures, and data processing services that impact the accounting function. They could also assist other finance staff with questions regarding their functions and help them understand how their functions relate to the general ledger.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare and enter standard journal entries into the general ledger on a monthly basis, including documentation of all entries. Maintain the general ledger in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prepare and enter adjusting and closing journal entries into the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Assist in preparation of timely and accurate monthly financial statements to include balance sheet, statement of operations (agency and by program) and changes in net assets, statement of cash flows, and financial ratios.
- Prepare bank account reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Prepare supporting documentation for annual independent audit.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly or other financial reports as required or requested by funders or contracts.
- Assist in the annual budget process as requested.
- Assist other members of the finance team as needed in order to meet all department deadlines. Cross training with other team members.
- Documentation of procedures for all assignments.
What you’ll provide:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and general ledger software.
- Attention to detail is critical.
- Utilize knowledge to summarize and report data clearly and concisely.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment in order to assure all deadlines are met.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal and external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners.
Education and Experience:
- Substantial progress towards obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Bachelor’s Degree in the Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- One year General Ledger experience
- Experienced in all aspects of accounting, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting.

- The typical work environment will be at an EMPACT office, working indoors.
- Possibility of working remote.
- Occasional travel to training and out-of-state locations may occur as needed.
