Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position:
Primary focus will be supporting and maintaining the plant power system service and distribution systems. This includes supporting new project power needs, managing equipment obsolescence and upgrades, monitoring power quality, and working as a liaison between the plant and the utility company.
Member of cross-functional electrical/controls engineering team responsible for supporting manufacturing improvements and operational excellence.

Day to Day Responsibilities
- Serve as the plant electrical resource to enhance and maintain the power distribution systems at the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post, NY. Coordinate with department leaders, trades, and external vendors to achieve goals while balancing operational department needs.
- Responsibilities include maintaining various power distribution equipment such as 15kV switches, substation transformers, substation breakers, breaker panels, UPS units, MCCs, and other distribution panels and disconnects. Provide electrical support for emergency power generators used for plant processes, life safety systems, and fire pumphouse operations.
- Evaluate and assign power sources for new equipment, considering maintenance shutdowns, system capacity limits, and location constraints. This may involve adding distribution centers or measuring operating currents of existing equipment.
- Partner with facility maintenance and operations teams to plan, schedule, and supervise shutdown-related activities. This includes reviewing documentation, conducting PPAs (Potential Problem Analyses), assisting with permits and site-specific documentation, and serving as the onsite technical expert during execution. Ensure work completion aligns with planned activities and update documentation as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, including managing NFPA 70E requirements for arc flash safety during installations and operations.
- Perform power monitoring and quality analysis to enhance visibility into power consumption and detect anomalies. Collaborate with the utility to identify causes of power quality issues and communicate findings to plant leadership.
- Work independently in a team-based environment with minimal supervision. Communicate effectively with Operations and Leadership regarding the benefits and risks of engineered solutions.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time
Primary working hours are 8AM-5PM M-F
Hours may occasionally flex as required to achieve plant production objectives.
Off shift support will occasionally be required for emergencies to maintain operations of critical assets.
Required Education and Experience
- BS - electrical engineering or equivalent
- 0-3 years of engineering experience with demonstrated success working with power distribution systems.
Required Skills
- High level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent to the position. Ability and interest to learn, and apply, new technologies in support of overall technical objectives.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices and power distribution systems
- Good organizational and communication skills plus the ability to maintain detailed documentation.
- Familiar with industrial power standards
- Ability to work in both a team and as an individual contributor.
- Possesses an understanding of electrical power systems and ability to apply it in troubleshooting and system design.
- Sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills.
- Highly motivated, results oriented, customer focused, with a high commitment level.
Desired Skills

- Familiar with Schweitzer Engineering Controllers and Relays
- UPS system experience
- MV switchgear equipment experience
- Experience with backup generators and auto transfer switching.
- Experience with power quality meters.
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of NFPA70,79,70E, as well as an understanding of safe, electrical work practices for medium (>2000V) and low voltage (<2000V) systems.

The range for this position is $68,034.00 - $93,548.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
