Summary Description of Position

This position is responsible for providing job site service and support to asphalt, aggregate and ready mix customers.  Will coordinate delivery of product to ensure accurate quantity and timeliness of delivery and act as the point of contact onsite for logistics and product concerns to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.  Provide job site feedback to sales, plant dispatch and/or Logistics Service Center to enhance communication, customer service, and maximize job site trucking efficiencies.  
 

Education, Experience, Skills Required

 

Education:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required

  • BA or BS in Business, Economics or Transportation/Logistics is preferred.

 

Experience: 

  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience which includes sales, customer relations, and/or construction/transportation experience is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of construction materials, including aggregates, asphalt and ready mix concrete, as well as their processes, and uses; 

  • weights and measures laws and regulations; 

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and regulations;

  • Basic knowledge of the technical specifications of all associated materials;

  • Skill in providing excellent customer service; 

  • Communicate effectively by phone and in person, presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner;

  • Schedule and organize large numbers of people and equipment efficiently and quickly;

  • Reading and interpreting computer generated reports; 

  • Basic mathematical computations;

  • Work in a stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making. 

  • Good decision making ability- Think and act quickly and creatively to anticipate and resolve problems; 

  • Multi-task and work well under pressure; 

  • Effectively diffuse issues at the lowest level possible; 

  • Work independently with minimal supervision;

  • Represent Vulcan in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.

  • Requires use of computerized equipment and technology. 

  • Knowledge and awareness of site hazards. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE);

  • Position requires ability to work at multiple sites depending on business needs;

     

  • Willing to work a rotating schedule with varying shifts.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Visits job sites prior to delivery to ensure safe conditions and proper access is available.  Notes any deficiencies and works with dispatch, sales and the customer to correct hazards.  Evaluates trucking needs for specific jobs and directs the Logistics Service Center accordingly.

  2. Attends pre-job customer meetings to assist in the coordination of the project scheduled and to proactively address customer and Vulcan concerns or potential problems.

  3. Directs deliveries into the job site and unloading areas.  Monitors the number of trucks on site and works with dispatch to adjust delivery times to avoid over/under trucking.

  4. Visually inspect and monitor material sampling and testing to ensure customer requirements are met.  Communicates concerns to quality control, production, sales, and dispatch.

  5. Anticipates delays and/or deficiencies in service to proactively eliminate or minimize the impact to the customer.

  6. Communicates job status throughout the delivery process to the Logistics Service Center to maximize trucking and other resources.

  7. Provides job site feedback to sales and dispatch following the completion of the job.  Attends post job meetings with customers.

  8. Logs each job site visit, noting any delays or concerns.

  9. Ensures Vulcan employees on the job site are complying with established safety procedures, policies, and practices.

  10. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Other Requirements

Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
 

Unusual Working Conditions
 

  • Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant.  In the office employees will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or work station. 

  • May be exposed to dust and dirt and extreme temperatures while on job sites..

  • May be required to perform activities around moving machinery and walking on uneven surfaces.  

  • May be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, squat, or kneel to accomplish functions of job.
