The Tax Manager is responsible for supporting the SVP of Accounting & Tax in managing the tax compliance and planning functions, ensuring accurate reporting, timely filings, and strong internal controls. This role is hands-on with compliance while also providing guidance on business initiatives and cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal, state, and local income tax information; coordinate with external tax service providers.
  • Prepare tax-related disclosures and supporting schedules for inclusion in audited financial statements, in coordination with the Accounting team and external auditors.
  • Perform REIT qualification testing and reporting.
  • Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments.
  • Calculate GAAP provisions and draft required disclosures.
  • Support transfer pricing and management fee allocations.
  • Prepare and file property, sales/use, and real estate taxes.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and Operations teams to provide tax input on business initiatives.
  • Research and summarize tax implications of new or changing regulations as they apply to the business.
  • Contribute to process improvements and support ad hoc Accounting and Tax projects as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP tax provisions and disclosure requirements.
  • Respond to IRS, state, and other tax authority inquiries.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear and concise communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-tax colleagues.
  • Professional integrity, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with a willingness to roll up sleeves.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation highly preferred (or on track to become a CPA).Minimum of 5 years of relevant tax experience.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model 
  • REIT experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in private equity–controlled or publicly traded companies preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with tax software/ERP systems.
