About the Department

This position plays a key role in supporting the operations of the Child Support Department and its Executive Management Team. Working under general supervision, the employee provides vital fiscal and administrative assistance to ensure the department runs smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include supporting facility and fiscal operations, assisting in the receptionist area, mailroom, main switchboard, and in-house call center, as well as preparing correspondence, reports, and other important documents. The role also helps maintain organized files and ledgers, manages incoming and outgoing communications, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of departmental services.

Position Duties

• Provides comprehensive administrative support to the Executive Leadership Team, including assistance with special projects and assignments
• Delivers excellent customer service to clients and staff as directed by the Business Manager
• Provides front office coverage by answering phones, routing calls, greeting visitors, maintaining appointment logs, and processing payments and receipts
• Supports the agency’s call center by navigating the Automated Case Tracking System (ACTS) to respond to inquiries, update records, and complete basic case functions
• Manages incoming and outgoing mail, filing systems, correspondence, and departmental communications; maintains supply inventories and work orders
• Assists with procurement and fiscal tasks, including purchase orders, invoice tracking, supply requests, and payroll/timekeeping backup duties
• Supports facilities and safety operations through routine inspections, safety tracking, and coordination of maintenance or repair requests
• Utilizes computer systems and software to prepare correspondence, reports, and summaries; ensures data accuracy, maintains confidentiality, and provides analytical or technical support as needed


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in the assigned program area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary additional requirements:

Successful completion of Customer Service, Spelling, Basic Excel, and Reading Comprehension tests will be required. Candidates selected as qualified will be contacted via email by a Human Resource representative for testing.

•Ability to use a wide variety of other computer technology to generate work for the office assigned
•Ability to compile information based on general instructions; ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees, and the public


Conditions of Employment:

In accordance with Session Law 2025-16, candidates selected for positions involving work with children in any capacity will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history check conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

Successful candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with Cumberland County must pass pre-employment screenings, including criminal history checks and drug screenings, as required by Cumberland County Policies and Procedures, prior to beginning work or receiving a final offer of employment. Refusal to submit to testing or testing positive for prohibited substances will result in the withdrawal of the conditional employment offer.
