Position Summary:  The position will be responsible for following safety programs, policies, training, and procedures that promote a robust and proactive safety culture and the maintenance of a healthy work environment. The position ensures the maintenance and monitoring of consistent safety and environmental management programs.

This application is for 2nd shift, 3pm - 1:30am, working four days per week. Flexibility on the specific days worked. 


Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable of the applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Forms, Work Instructions (WIs), and must follow them. The employee remains knowledgeable on an ongoing and timely basis as changes in the SOPs, FORMS, and WIs occur.
  • At work as scheduled, start work at the beginning of a shift, work until the end of their shift, be on time to meetings, complete assigned tasks in a competent, timely manner, and works overtime as required. Avoids overtime unless preauthorized.
  • Know and follow the applicable policies and procedures and Thorne Research policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Pay attention to detail. Employee completes paperwork accurately, neatly, and fully.
  • Willingly work in different areas as assigned and always seeks to perform value-added work.
  • Get along with co-workers and supervisors. Respond appropriately to criticism and instructions from supervisors. Employee follows the Standards of Conduct as outlined in the latest version of the Thorne Research Employee Handbook.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the overall functions of production and the flow process, is aware of health, safety, and environmental issues in the manufacturing facility, and exhibit vigilance in taking proper precautions to maintain a safe and hazard-free environment.
  • Conduct and support safety talks and other safety training.
  • Serve as an on-site first responder for all emergencies.
  • Support internal safety audit regularly to detect existing or potential risks and hazards.
  • Take initiative and make sound decisions within the guidelines provided, and is willing, if necessary, to stop a procedure or process when an SOP or employee safety is in question.
  • Respirator Maintenance – Ensure proper fit, use, and cleanliness. Store per written procedures. Require wearing respiratory protection as needed to perform work.
  • Perform various weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections promptly.
  • Stay up to date on any applicable certifications.
  • Responsible for aspects of the hazard assessment process, including but not limited to reviewing and monitoring hazard observations/near miss reports and determining corrective actions.
  • Collaborate on Incident Reports, aid in investigation, and determine the magnitude and type of problems and resolutions. In cooperation with the Manager, HSE Operations consult with technical personnel while assisting with the investigation. Give instructions for further action.
  • Perform weekly eyewash inspections and hazardous waste area inspections.
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher, first-aid/AED/BBP, flammable cabinet, and BOLO stick/bull horn inspections
  • Perform quarterly ladder/stair inspections.
  • Complete eyeglasses vouchers, maintenance tickets, and respirator fit testing.
  • Create engaging content and training materials and execute weekly “Take 5 for Safety” presentations.
  • Complete the ThorneU Train the Trainer Course.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of HSE-related topics to present bi-weekly New Employee Orientation presentations.
  • Participate in the monthly Safety Rep Meetings as an active and engaged member.
  • Employees must complete their RCRA training requirements within the first 6 months of starting their position.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and resolve/escalate hazard or near-miss reports submitted to the department.
  • Monitor, evaluate, investigate/escalate safety and environmental incidents (property damage, non-work related injuries or illnesses, work-related first-aid injuries or illnesses, ergonomics).
  • Be able to complete PPE Assessments
  • Complete the OSHA30 training requirements and receive the OSHA30 training card.
  • Coordinate and conduct annual emergency preparedness drills.


What You Need

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Required to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid.
  • Influence others to perform the essential duties of the positions safely and to report unsafe conditions.
  • Possess strong analytical skills relating to Root Cause Analysis and Risk Analysis.
  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends if an incident occurs.
  • Able to perform the duties of the position on-site, and while in the production and warehouse environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word software programs.
  • Develop and deliver on assigned objectives within requested timeframes.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and engage others in a positive manner.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
