Terms of Employment: Permanent, 10 Month Position
Nature of Work
The Assistant Manager & Caterer will work with the cafeteria managers and employees to train on various needs in the cafeteria such as but not limited to culinary, inventory following recipes, cash management, point of sale, and production records.
Qualifications and Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrate computer literacy
- Catering skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certification
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follows all rules, policies, and procedures of Wilson County Schools, along with state and federal regulations relevant to the school nutrition program.
- Trains managers and employees for consistency across the district.
- Works with a supervisor to plan and deliver professional development activities.
- Provides on-the-job training in work scheduling, equipment use and care, food productions, nutrition, sanitation, inventory, compliance and record keeping.
- Monitors federal compliance related to School Nutrition regulations as they pertain to all programs of which the department participates in, including but not limited to National School Lunch & Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, and the After School Snack Program.
- Is familiar with and abides by all HACCP requirements and ensures current staff and trainees perform to its standards.
- Monitors working conditions in facilities and recommends methods for increased efficiency.
- Knows, understands, and implements the requirements of the School Nutrition Program as well as understand Offer -vs- Serve provision.
- Assists schools with absences and performs managerial and employee duties.
- Assists managers in financial management including cost control, usage of materials, prevention of feed waste, inventory control, and labor needs.
- Assists in preparation of annual USDA compliance review by supervisor, if necessary.
- Communicates with supervisor on a continual basis on findings, problems, and successes observed in the cafeterias.
- Performs all catering management duties including but not limited to preparing menus, shopping for ingredients following all procurement requirements, preparing off-site and delivering, cleaning up and working after normal school hours.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of School Nutrition.
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- Requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
- Frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by using the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
- Requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts.
- Requires use of measuring devices.
- Occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts.
Special Requirements (if applicable)
- Must be able to work with and train other employees.
- Must demonstrate functional knowledge of principles of nutrition and meal planning, equipment usage and care, sanitation, purchasing, cost control, and school nutrition management.
