Substitute Paraeducator **No College Credit Units Required** at Desert Sands Unified School District

The Paraeducator/Special Education II may be assigned to a special education classroom or to a general education classroom. Assistance is generally provided to a small group of students; however, the Paraeducator/Special Education II may also be assigned to one-on-one assistance as required to meet the needs of individual students. The type of physical assistance provided depends upon the disabilities of the students to whom the Paraeducator/Special Education II is assigned, and may include assistance with one or more of the following: ambulation, transfers, personal care (toileting, diapering, dressing, grooming, feeding), accessing and storing materials and supplies, and using therapeutic equipment. **This position generally supports students who may be eligible for special education or receive services in areas such as Medically Fragile, Developmentally Disabled, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Emotionally Disturbed, Intellectually Disabled, Autism, Visually Impaired and Orthopedically Handicapped.

Substitute approval is contingent on candidates passing a basic skills exam. The exam is solely to establish a substitute pool and will not be used to meet minimum requirements for job descriptions during Open & Promotional recruitment.

Substitutes work on an on-call basis as needed. Hours may vary based on location and position. *This position does not include benefits, as it is a substitute position.
