About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Manager-Benefits or its designee, perform a variety of technical duties in support of employee benefits programs including enrollment, orientation, Workers’ Compensation, and record-keeping functions; serve as a technical resource and liaison concerning employee benefits.

Required Documents

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years payroll, employee benefits or related experience. SELECTION & EXAMINATIONS: The selection process will consist of competitive application screening for completeness and minimum qualifications. A written performance exam (weighted 20%) and an oral interview exam (weighted 80%) will be conducted. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. Final selection will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores. Required along with your application:

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the Benefits Technician position is a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with a strong foundation in employee benefits administration, enrollment processes, and record-keeping. They possess practical experience with payroll, benefits programs, and Workers’ Compensation, and are skilled in interpreting and explaining policies, laws, regulations, and procedures to employees and retirees. A strong candidate is committed to delivering exceptional customer service, conducting benefits orientations, supporting open enrollment activities, and assisting employees with claims and forms. Experience in a school district or public sector environment is preferred, along with the ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, and uphold the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive employee information.
