School Year 2025-2026 Full-Time: Special Education Teacher - Resource Date of Availability: October 2025
The resource special education teacher is responsible for meeting the disability specific instructional needs of students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Students are assigned to a team of resource teachers by grade level clusters (K-3, 4-5, and 6-8). Students predominantly have specific learning disabilities.
Key Responsibilities: • Provide services based on individual needs in areas such as: math, reading and written expression; organizational skills/executive functioning; and social skills/self-regulation.
• Develop and implement IEPs that address each child's unique needs.
• Use evidence-based practices and assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction and services as needed.
• Work collaboratively and team with related service providers (e.g., occupational therapists, speech- language pathologists, physical therapists, behavior interventionist, adapted physical education).
• Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services – initial and re-evaluations.
• Maintain accurate records, including assessment data, progress reports, and other required documentation for purposes of compliance.
• Supervise and direct the work of paraprofessionals assigned to classrooms to support students’ academic needs.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure they understand students’ needs and how their disability related needs affect their participation in the classroom and in the general education curriculum.
• Work with classroom teachers to implement accommodations and to modify expectations for classwork and assignments based on individual students’ needs.
• Create and implement communication systems with families.
• Work collaboratively with the Lead Special Education Teacher to identify curricula and instructional materials relevant to each students’ needs and participate in training on instructional resources available at Cologne Academy.
• Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including recertification for CPI, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings consistent with district and program priorities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
