Position Summary

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides direct, hands-on care and behavioral support to pediatric patients with medical and psychiatric needs. Working closely with licensed nurses and an interdisciplinary team, the PCA helps create a therapeutic environment that promotes safety, healing, and growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision for pediatric patients, assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, transfers, and grooming.

  • Observe, monitor, and accurately document patients’ behavior, affect, participation, and vital signs.

  • Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing environment consistent with trauma-informed care practices.

  • Support therapeutic and educational programming, recreational activities, and behavioral interventions.

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized care and behavioral support plans under clinical direction.

  • Respond to patient crises using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques to ensure safety.

  • Collaborate closely with nurses, therapists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and behavioral specialists to ensure integrated and compassionate care.


Licensure & Certifications

  • De-escalation Training – required within 30 days of hire

  • CPR / BLS Certification – required
