About the Department

Under the supervision of the Manager and Library Director, position works at the public service desk assisting users with basic Library functions; duties include, but are not limited to:  Assists customers by issuing library cards, checking materials in & out, placing holds, & locating materials using an automated library system; assists patrons on-site or by telephone with basic informational & directional requests; assists customers in use of library catalogs, computers, copiers, printers, & other equipment throughout the library; handles fines, fees, & payments; interprets & communicates general library policies & procedures to patrons; ability to operate equipment such as telephone, computers, copiers, faxes, etc. Searches for needed materials, & shelves accurately according to prescribed locations; performs opening & closing procedures; performs other associated duties as required or assigned

Position Duties

High School graduate, plus two years relevant work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.   Ability to perform duties of job. Familiarity with general PC operations in Windows environment. Excellent customer service skills.  Excellent reading & verbal ability. Knowledge of library collections & services or willingness to learn. Aptitude for detailed work. Efficiency & friendliness. Good communication skills with both children & adults.  This position requires night & weekend work on a rotating basis.
