Description

We are looking for a cook to join our team! The cook will prepare and serve meals in a clean, healthy, safe and timely manner to patients, staff, and support the community's Meals on Wheels program. 


Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Cleans assigned areas of the cafeteria and kitchen. Completes cleaning duty lists weekly and daily. Keeps work area clean through the day.
  • Knowledge of food handling and equipment. Knows how to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Does routine stocking of supplies, food, paper products, and chemicals
  • Sets up luncheons for Administration and for other functions in other areas of the hospital
  • Prepares patients meals/snacks per diet order. Prepares lunch for the café per the menu. Can make substitutions as need to the menu and still meet the dietary guidelines for patients and MOW’s program.
  • Utilizes food and other products in an economical manner without sacrificing quality of patient satisfaction and care.
  • Time preparations to meet schedules for meals.
  • Adapts to change in workload or patient census without interference in patient care.
  • Responsibility for completion of assignments without interference to quality of work and utilizes time efficiently to complete all tasks.
  • Must assist in the café serving food or tending the cash register.
  • May need to perform duties not directly assigned. Assists with orientation and training of new employees.
  • Attends in services and departmental meeting required.
  • Uses personal protection equipment, gloves, aprons and eye glass protection. Knows when and how to properly wash hands. Must wear gloves when preparing or serving foods.
  • Communicates to other staff pertinent information regarding patients as necessary to coworkers and supervisor.

Professional Requirements:

  • The ability to down size or increase a recipe, depending on the quality needed.
  • Must follow universal precautions.
  • Ability to use a mixer, blender, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • This position is responsible for wholehearted, genuine operations of all aspects of the safety and health program – including compliance with rules and regulations- and for continuously practicing safety and health while performing their duties.
  • Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Past institutional experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to make fast, simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Frequent climbing, listing, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
