A. Job Identification
Deliver ready-mix concrete and other associated products to construction sites within our production areas. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient delivery of ready-mix concrete.
B. Essential Tasks and Job Functions
- Perform Pre-Trip inspection of the truck in accordance with DOT regulations, including checking all fluids such as oil and antifreeze
- Maneuver truck in a safe manner while at plant through all sequences of the concrete loading cycle
- Receive delivery ticket. Review for address and directions as well as any additional products needed for the job. Clarify any concerns with dispatcher
- Add various ingredients such as fiber, admixtures, and other products as directed on delivery ticket
- Check slumps and mix of concrete
- Place chutes from fender to main chute of truck
- Have delivery ticket signed and assure all information required is written down
- Collect cash or checks on COD job sites before pouring
- Wash truck down after unloading in designated area, per contractor
- Communicate well with dispatchers throughout the delivery process
- Refuel truck as needed and every evening at the end of the shift
- Perform all post-inspection procedures at the end of the shift
C. Additional Expectations
- Ability to safely and accurately maneuver truck in uneven and poor terrain while backing or pulling into job site
- Demonstrate courtesy and respect for customers while interacting in the field and on the radio
- The exterior and interior of truck must be thoroughly cleaned at the end of the shift
- Competence in basic math calculations, e.g. addition and subtraction
- Proficiently read, write, and speak English
- Must have and maintain a valid Class A or B CDL license issued by the state of Georgia
- Required to pass a Federal Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screening and physical
- Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy
- Ability to interact professionally with management, co-workers, and customers in a diplomatic manner in stressful situations
- Required to operate a vehicle and perform tasks in a safe manner, observing all safety requirements and policies
- Schedule availability and flexibility required to accommodate business volume fluctuations and weather conditions
D. Physical Demands
- This position required the driver to climb in and out of truck approximately 50 times per day
- Ability to climb a13-foot high ladder at the front of the truck several times per day
- Drivers must pull down the main chute on the truck and attach up to four additional chutes at every job, requiring 60 pounds of force to pull the chute into place
- Additional chutes stored on the truck fender with straps require approximately 45 pounds of pressure to release the strap. Each chute weighs approximately 60 pounds each and requires 60 pounds of lift to move the chute into place
- Drivers must wash and clean their trucks with brushes and a hose, requiring a fair amount of climbing on the truck
E. Environmental Condition
- Must be able to tolerate, with or without accommodation:
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions
- High noise levels and significant vibrations associated with construction equipment and overall job site activities
- Walking and working of varied rough terrain conditions
- May be exposed to potentially toxic and dangerous products and chemicals such as cement lime, concrete admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other potentially harmful products and chemicals
- Other potentially harmful physical hazards that can endanger life, health or cause bodily injury, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, falls, rough environmental conditions, moving equipment and other hazards
