As the test range support Pilot you will provide critical airborne support for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and balloon operations conducted at the Tillamook UAS Test Range. This role ensures safe integration of manned and unmanned aircraft operations within complex airspace environments. The Pilot will work closely with UAS operators, airspace coordinators, and range safety personnel to maintain situational awareness, visual observation, and deconfliction during all phases of flight operations.

Essential Functions:
• Conduct chase aircraft and visual observer operations in support of UAS flight testing and range operations.
• Maintain visual contact with test articles and ensure separation from other aircraft or hazards.
• Coordinate with ATC, Range Operations Control, and UAS pilots to ensure safety of flight.
• Conduct pre-flight planning, risk assessments, and weather briefings.
• Support flight readiness reviews and mission debriefs.
• Maintain compliance with FAA regulations, COA (Certificate of Authorization) requirements, and local range procedures.
• Assist with airspace coordination, range communications, and mission planning documentation as required.
• Operate chase aircraft in both VFR and, when qualified, IFR conditions as mission dictates.
• Maintain aircraft logs, maintenance coordination, and operational readiness.
Education & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
• FAA Private Pilot Certificate with a current FAA Medical Certificate (Class II or higher preferred).
• Minimum of 800 total flight hours, including 50 hours PIC in similar aircraft category (Single Engine – Land).
• Strong radio communication skills and ability to coordinate in dynamic test environments.
• Familiarity with FAA Part 91 operations and COA requirements for UAS flight operations.
• Excellent situational awareness and decision-making under dynamic test conditions.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, based on test schedules.
• Must be able to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Commercial and Instrument Rating (IFR Certified) strongly preferred.
• Prior experience supporting UAS, military, or test range operations.
• Knowledge of airspace coordination and range safety procedures.
• Experience operating in complex or restricted/special use airspace (e.g., W-570).
• Current or former military, contractor, or test pilot experience a plus.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
• Primarily flight line and airfield environment with occasional office-based planning.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions typical of the Oregon coastal region.
• Requires coordination with multiple teams including FAA, Range Operations, and external test customers.
