About the role:

The Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all consumer underwriting functions. This role is critical to ensuring sound credit decisions, maintaining portfolio quality, and supporting the credit union’s strategic lending initiatives. The ideal candidate will be an expert in consumer lending, a skilled team leader, and a proactive problem solver with a strong understanding of underwriting systems and economic trends.

As the Underwriting Supervisor, you will:

  • Loan Review & Decision-Making
    • Conduct senior-level review of consumer loan applications, analyzing credit history, score factors, income, and member relationships.
    • Render decisions in accordance with Texell’s underwriting guidelines and serve as a subject matter expert on loan policy and procedures.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Supervise and coach the underwriting team to ensure high work quality, increase approval ratios, and reduce delinquency rates.
    • Lead training initiatives to strengthen underwriting knowledge and performance.
    • Determine departmental staffing needs and provide ongoing mentorship.
  • Program Management & Process Improvement
    • Oversee daily operations of consumer underwriting and the indirect lending program.
    • Implement strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals.
    • Leverage technology and innovation to streamline workflows and improve efficiencies.
  •  Project Management & Compliance.
    • Lead and participate in cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing loan products, services, and underwriting tools. 
    • Oversee maintenance of auto-decisioning systems and test enhancements to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Dealer Relationship Management
    • Maintain strong relationships with existing dealers while identifying new opportunities to grow the indirect lending program.
    • Analyze dealership performance to detect trends, red flags, and areas for improvement.
    • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership to optimize volume, credit quality, and profitability.
  • Other Duties:
    • Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned, collaborating with various departments to achieve common goals.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of experience in consumer lending, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines, credit analysis, and indirect lending practices.
  • Proven experience with dealer relationship management and understanding of fraud indicators. 
  • Ability to lead, train, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Proficiency with lending systems and decisioning tools; experience with auto-decisioning platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
