- Part-time position (0.4FTE).
- Salary commencing $49.41 per hour plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
The Opportunity
Positioned within Council’s Advocacy, Communications and Engagement department, the Media Lead will work to grow Council’s reputation through proactive and reactive media liaison. The role will support Council services and enhance public awareness through high-level media advice and timely delivery of media responses.
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Communications, you will be responsible for the following:
- Providing strategic media advice and support to internal stakeholders.
- Managing and developing a proactive media program and effectively managing all reactive media issues.
- Establish, educate and enforce Council’s Media and Issues Management Policy.
- Develop and deliver proactive and reactive media strategies to shape stakeholder opinion about and raise awareness of Council.
- Providing well-considered, sound media advice, preparation and support to the Mayor, Executive and CEO.
- Improving the organisational media capacity, including media training.
- Providing speech writing, copy writing and other communications advice to the CEO Executive team and departments.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other relevant disciplines, or equivalent industry experience.
- Extensive experience in developing and implementing large and complex media strategies and plans across all mediums – traditional and digital.
- Demonstrate political acumen in providing media advice and recommendations.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills – including breaking down complex ideas into easily digestible messaging across different platforms.
- Experience in thinking outside the square to develop innovative and effective communications solutions to meet organisational goals.
