CommIT Enterprises, Inc. is seeking an experienced Controller to help maintain the financial integrity and accountability of the organization. This position based in Stafford, VA is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting, while ensuring full compliance with DCAA, FAR, CAS, and GAAP standards.
The Controller will collaborate closely with executive leadership, project control, and program management teams to provide accurate, timely, and insightful financial information that supports strategic decision-making and operational excellence. Established in 2001, CommIT is a Certified Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) providing innovative technical engineering and data science services. Our enterprise systems support includes the Department of Defense’s (DoD) GCSS-MC, CAC2S, TBMCS-MC, and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ (VA) telehealth communications. Responsibilities:Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to-
Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial updates to executive leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting key financial data that supports strategic decision-making.
Guide financial and operational decisions by applying company policies, sound judgment, and fiscal discipline within the context of the current business and economic environment.
Develop, implement, and maintain effective financial controls, budgets, and forecasting models that ensure transparency, accuracy, and compliance with all applicable standards.
Monitor and achieve budgeting goals through proactive scheduling, variance analysis, and timely corrective action to maintain fiscal accountability.
Drive efficiency across payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes by identifying opportunities for automation, streamlining workflows, and implementing innovative practices.
Partner with leadership to develop and support both short- and long-term financial strategies, ensuring alignment with CommIT’s growth objectives and operational priorities.
Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP, DCAA, CAS, and all government contract requirements.
Maintain robust internal control safeguards for revenue recognition, expenditures, and cost allocation, promoting financial accuracy and organizational integrity.
Collaborate with the CFO to establish and monitor financial benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards, including preparation and submission of DCAA-required Provisional Billing Rates and annual Incurred Cost Submissions.
Ensure consistent application of accounting policies, procedures, and standards across all programs, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in government contract accounting, including demonstrated expertise in DCAA-compliant environments.
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA, CMA, CGFM, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, CAS, FAR, and DCAA regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply evolving government financial management standards.
- Proven experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger operations, with a focus on process improvement and accuracy.
- Demonstrated expertise in cost structure management, including alignment of direct, indirect, fringe, overhead, and G&A expenditures.
- Strong understanding of government contract pricing and cost proposal development, including labor rate structures, indirect cost pools, and cost analysis.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present complex financial data to non-financial audiences.
- High ethical standards and attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
