About the Department
The job of Network Administrator was established for the purpose/s of supervising and/or participating in the installation, configuration, modification, maintenance, and monitoring of District's network; planning, coordinating, developing, and maintaining connectivity, stability and optimized access to the network in compliance with established guidelines; and supervising, training and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel.
The position reports to the Director of Information Technology.
Position Duties
- Formulates procedures for acquiring, testing, and implementing changes to hardware and software for the purpose of delivering appropriate support for school business and instructional programs.
- Supervises the administration of naming conventions for servers, workstations and user accounts including email servers, user mailboxes and internet access for the purpose of maintaining network security and monitoring systems to support and control network traffic.
- Monitors network configuration reviews, including all systems that comprise and enterprise infrastructure; coordinates with the Director of Information Technology in communicating any changes to network configuration to all impacted users for the purpose of providing updated, functioning and useful technology systems to district personnel.
- Analyzes existing and new network equipment, software and firmware features, functions, and patches; and recommends subsequent action, including upgrades based on results for the purpose of ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.
- Evaluates and recommend telecommunications methods, server component, and data communication protocols; resolves difficult or complex connectivity and data communications problems through on site analysis for the purpose of maintaining technology support services.
- Supervises, evaluates, and trains Network Technicians and Telephone Technicians for the purpose of ensuring connectivity.
- Serves as a technical resources for schools, offices, and technology vendors regarding hardware/software licensing and security configuration for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established requirements.
- Prepare and update operations procedures manuals and train users regarding changes to the LAN or WAN for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.
- Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Four years of experience in the installation, modification, maintenance and configuration of networking devices specifically with local, wide and Ethernet network. Two years of supervisory experience.
Education: High School diploma. Graduation from a recognize college or university with a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, engineering, or related field desired.
