The Clinical Lab Assistant performs a variety of multi-skilled clinical and support functions including specimen collection, specimen processing, report processing and distribution, phlebotomy, complex laboratory information system functions, waived testing, workflow coordination, office duties, ordering supplies, and customer support.
- Performs variety of routine and complex phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture, finger and heel sticks, blood cultures, therapeutic phlebotomy.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the Cerner Millennium LIS system to include laboratory specimen processing, reporting, and ABN checking. Demonstrates knowledge of registration and billing functions applicable to lab processes.
- Organizes work to meet deadlines and works under stressful conditions. Works independently with minimal supervision and direction.
- Provides the highest level of customer service in general and relating to laboratory testing/processes to all customers (Physicians, Nurses, Technicians, Patients, Colleagues, etc.).
- Coordinates and organizes front desk activities to include complete and accurate processing of specimens and orders. Able to answer questions relating to specimen collection, processing, turnaround, reference lab testing, and pricing.
- Organizes and maintains lab records in accordance with regulations. Distributes reports in a timely manner.
- Interacts effectively and has knowledge of processes between lab and internal and external lab clients to include infection control, occupational and employee health, contract accounts, physician offices.
- Obtains DOT hazardous shipping certification and be responsible for shipping specimens to reference laboratories.
- Maintains par inventory levels of supplies for specimen collection and processing areas.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning of equipment used in specimen processing area to include centrifuges, copies and faxes.

- Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
