Description

The Flat Bed Die Cut Operator is responsible for the efficient and safe setup, operation, and maintenance of a Corrugated flatbed die cutter. This role ensures production meets quality and safety standards, with a focus on high-end materials such as litho labels, high hold-out substrates, and channel scoring applications.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Operate a Corruagted flatbed die cutter to convert corrugated sheets into high-quality finished products.
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Perform accurate machine setups and make-readies, including mounting and demounting die boards, stripping jigs, and ejection rubber assemblies.
  • Ensure products meet specifications by inspecting during production and making needed adjustments.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to channel scoring, knicking rules, patching, and other die cutting functions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; eliminate safety hazards.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and resolve equipment or material issues.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of the Bobst machine and report any concerns.
  • Review job tickets and verify materials, dies, and tools match requirements.
  • Perform machine setups, including, channel scoring alignment, registration for litho labels, adjustments for high hold-out substrates, etc.
  • Monitor production runs for quality, ensuring accurate cuts, proper score depths, and no material defects.
  • Make real-time adjustments to maintain die cut accuracy and quality.
  • Enter accurate production data and downtime into the tracking system.
  • Complete daily production and quality control reports.

 

Weekly Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and clean dies, stripping components, and support tools.
  • Coordinate with maintenance for scheduled service or preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Review weekly quality results with supervisor or lead operator to identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss production goals, safety updates, and quality trends.
  • Perform tool and equipment inventory checks and report needs for resupply or repair.

As-Needed Responsibilities:

  • Fill in as lead operator during vacations, training days, or absences.
  • Attend mandatory safety and compliance training sessions.
  • Assist with process improvements and trials on new materials or cutting methods.
  • Train new assistants or operators on proper setup and operation.

 

Qualifications


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn machine setup and adjustments.
  • Proficient in Channel scoring, Die cutting litho-laminated labels and handling high hold-out materials
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic, team-oriented attitude, and good communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and use of ERP or manufacturing software.
  • Ability to read job tickets and perform simple math for measurements and quality checks.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment preferred.
  • Experience with corrugated or folding carton production is a plus.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training to advance into an Operator role.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods (up to 12-hour shifts).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and operate equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Tolerance to noise, dust, and adhesives commonly found in corrugated facilities.
