Description
The Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager. Maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. This position is a critical member of the general & administrative functions of the organization, providing the information necessary for the management team to make informed decisions.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as needed.
1. Manage the General Ledger, including reviewing accounts payable entries, account reconciliations, preparing journal entries and month-end accruals.
2. Ensure all cash receipts and disbursements are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
3. Maintain fixed asset records, record asset purchases and disposals and record monthly depreciation expense.
4. Reconcile biweekly corporate credit card statements and make all associated entries in accounting system.
5. Review and reconcile operating and investment accounts on a regular basis.
6. Support billing processes, including all associated entries in accounting system.
7. Review grant expenses, prepare reimbursement requests and reports as needed.
8. Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual reports per program and department, participate in monthly financial statement reviews with individual departments.
9. Review intercompany transactions, record associated invoices and journal entries.
10. Assist with annual financial audit and periodic internal audits of various grants and programs
11. Works closely with LIFE affiliates and program managers to provide accurate financial reports and accounting support.
12. Performs job duties of other Finance Department staff during vacations, absence or as assigned by the Accounting Manager or CFO.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field/or equivalent experience of at least five (5) years.
SKILLS: Must be highly proficient in MS Excel and comfortable handling large volumes of data. Must have recent experience with mid-size cloud-based accounting systems such as Sage Intacct. Must be detailed, possess excellent analytical and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple projects. Must work well collaboratively as well as independently and maintain confidentiality.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to do some lifting for office work; requires sitting, walking, standing, bending; good hearing and visual capability. Approximately 25% of the work is performed while standing or walking.
