Primary Purpose:
Maintain stock room for transportation department. Purchase, stock, distribute, and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and materials for repairing and maintaining district vehicles.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Clear and valid Texas drivers’ license
Driving record that meets the requirements of the district’s insurance carrier
Must have or be willing to obtain CDL within 90 days of hire
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Basic math skills
Knowledge of auto parts and terminology
Knowledge of purchasing procedures
Ability to use automated inventory system
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Efficient electronic and manual file organization.
Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
Ability to pass U.S. D.O.T. alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
Experience:
Two years of experience in inventory parts management preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Purchasing and Receiving
1. Locate and requisition all parts, materials, and supplies needed for vehicle repair and maintenance and order fuel. Maintain inventory at established levels and initiate purchase orders to replace as needed.
2. Pick up parts ordered as needed or arrange for delivery.
3. Contact vendors to check on availability of parts and supplies. Ensure parts catalogs and other resource information are current.
4. Load and unload delivery trucks as needed. Unpack items received and inspect for damage and defects.
5. Work cooperatively with purchasing department to develop and define specifications and identify sources for parts and materials.
Records
6. Conduct regular parts and fuel usage inventories and identify and resolve any deficiencies.
7. Compile, maintain, and file all records required including records on parts used, time spent on labor, and cost of each repair job.
8. Verify accuracy of shipments and record any discrepancies or damage. Detect and resolve problems with incorrect orders, invoices, and shipments.
Safety
9. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
10. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
11. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Other
12. Serve as a substitute bus driver as needed and must be available for morning and afternoon routes.
13. Conduct responsibilities in accordance with customer care principles.
14. Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with staff members and the public through all forms of communication.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
