Additional Information: Show/Hide The Student Counselor will guide and support the adult learners in navigating their academic and career paths. They will help students with personalized education plans and provide assistance for job placement or transitions to further college studies. This role requires an understanding of the unique challenges faced by adult students, who often balance work, family, and other responsibilities with their education. The student counselor will work closely with the Career Navigator and the AJC representative.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Academic guidance: Help students develop and achieve their educational goals, which can include obtaining a high school equivalency credential, completing a specific training program, or transitioning to post-secondary education.
Career planning and job assistance: Help students explore career options that align with their interests, skills, and values by connecting them with the Career Navigator and/or AJC representative. Services often include:
Resume building
Interview preparation
Networking strategies
Connecting students with employment opportunities
Resource navigation: Connect students to a wide range of support services within the community. These can include resources for housing, healthcare, financial assistance, and other services that can impact a student's success. This is collaboration with Windsor's social service department including the food bank.
Case management and advocacy: Monitor a student's progress and advocate for their needs to help remove barriers to their academic and professional success. This includes maintaining and updating student records to track goals and progress and keeping their teachers informed of any barriers and/or progress.
Emotional and personal support: Provide individual or group counseling sessions to help students manage stress, anxiety including test anxiety, or other personal challenges related to their educational journey.
Wednesdays 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM 2 hours per week Location: 601 Matianuck Avenue, Windsor, CT Room 16 Pay is $50.08 per hour and is PEP Grant Funded
