Additional Information: Show/Hide QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the knowledge to effectively communicate using ASL; this position also requires command of the English language, knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations; general needs and behavior of high school students and student recreation activities involving sports, games and crafts.
Must possess the skill to understand the needs of high school students and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning or recreational situation; learn the requirements of the students in the specific learning programs to which assigned; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; effectively supervise students in a variety of situations; establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files; operate standard office equipment including keyboarding, copy machine, tape recorders and projectors; maintain calm and patience in stressful situations; understand and carry out both and written instructions in an independent manner; establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; proficient in the use of American Sign Language.
Must have the ability to assist teachers in instructing individuals and small groups of students in various learning situations including basic academic subjects; assist in supervising students to maintain effective learning environment; noting behavioral problems observed; provide teachers and school administrators with relevant feed-back and information on students’ progress through observation and daily contact; perform related duties as required.
Clerical experience and work involving the supervision of students is desirable. Completion of twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses.
Demonstration of proficiency in American Sign Language; demonstration of familiarity with deaf culture is desired.

Proof of passing Paraprofessional Exam from any district
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: Assist a certificated teacher in the instruction, supervision and training of individual or groups of aurally handicapped students by performing a variety of instructional support and student care activities; perform a variety of related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning environment. Employees in this classification receive direct to general supervision from a certificated teacher or school site administrator within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures. This position provides a variety of responsible instructional support activities to enhance the educational environment within the District and requires a high degree of positive contact with both students and certificated staff.
STARTING SALARY: $2,269.75 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 6 (daily working hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
