Job Summary

The Senior Manager, PMO & Manufacturing Engineering, will lead the integrated project management office (PMO) and manufacturing engineering function within Operations. This leader will oversee a team of Project Managers and Manufacturing Engineers responsible for driving critical supplier initiatives, cross-functional projects, and new product introduction readiness across a fully outsourced manufacturing network.
 
 The role is accountable for ensuring efficient execution of high-impact projects, supplier capability improvements, and operational readiness activities that align with corporate objectives in quality, cost, compliance, capacity, and timeline. This individual will act as a strategic thought partner to Operations, Sourcing, Quality, and R&D leadership while cultivating high performance, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration within their team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Directly manage, coach, and develop a team of Project Managers and Manufacturing Engineers, setting priorities and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across internal teams and external manufacturing partners.
  • Build organizational capability in project management discipline and supplier-focused manufacturing engineering expertise.

Program & Project Management (PMO)

  • Establish and lead PMO governance for Operations, standardizing tools, processes, and reporting to drive visibility, efficiency, and consistency in project execution.
  • Oversee execution of large-scale cross-functional initiatives, including supplier transfers, cost optimization projects, and critical operational programs.
  • Ensure projects meet budget, schedule, compliance, and business objectives while proactively managing risks and roadblocks.

Manufacturing Engineering Leadership

  • Provide strategic technical direction and oversight to external contract manufacturers, ensuring readiness for new product introductions and scaling existing product lines.
  • Drive supplier capability development, process optimization, and cost reduction initiatives across the contract manufacturing network.
  • Partner with Quality, Regulatory, and R&D to ensure robust process validations, regulatory compliance, and operational risk mitigation.

Cross-Functional & Supplier Engagement

  • Act as the primary operations interface with key contract manufacturing partners, building strong supplier relationships that enable business continuity and growth.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership across Sourcing, Quality, Finance, and R&D to align project and engineering initiatives with strategic goals.
  • Provide regular executive-level updates on program progress, supplier performance, and operational readiness.

Expected Areas of Competence

  • Strong expertise in program/project management frameworks and manufacturing engineering in regulated medical device environments.
  • Proven success leading supplier-facing initiatives, including technology transfer, NPI readiness, and operational capability building.
  • Deep knowledge of contract manufacturing models, supplier relationship management, and FDA/ISO compliance requirements.
  • Financial acumen in business case development, project budgeting, and cost improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and engage with external suppliers at executive levels.
  • Exceptional communication skills—able to tailor structured, concise updates for executives while providing technical depth to cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in Operations, Project Management, or Manufacturing Engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership/people management role.
  • Experience working with global contract manufacturing in medical devices required.
  • Track record of leading cross-functional projects across quality, sourcing, and operations functions.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management software (Smartsheet, MS Project), ERP systems (SAP preferred), and advanced MS Office tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
