BRICK Gateway Academy Charter School is our Newark location. As a full K-12 continuum, we start our college-focused academic programming in kindergarten and yield better results for Newark students for generations to come. We are more than a school; we are a full ecosystem of supports from cradle to career. We provide our families with free wraparound services like prenatal care, career services, and housing support. Our high school alumni receive up to six years of post-graduate assistance. BRICK Gateway Academy attracts a diverse staff devoted to nurturing our students’ intellect and identities in order to prepare them to graduate from college and to chart their own course.
Role: BRICK Networks separates the core responsibilities of running a school day-to-day into three primary functions: Instruction, Operations, and Social Emotional Learning. The Associate Dean will serve as a support to the social emotional team and assist with leading the school’s work on student identity development and trauma informed practices infused in all levels of instructional and social emotional programming. This role will be both proactive in case managing students and interventions; as well as reactive to student misbehavior and crisis. The ideal candidate has experience implementing restorative practices that focus on child development and not discipline or control. Experience working in mental or behavioral health settings is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Under the guidance of the Dean of Culture or VP, ensure a high achievement culture using the BRICK core values
Assist in response to crisis behaviors
Maintain accurate and up to date records
Participate, lead, and develop school wide events such as fun Friday, community meeting, celebrations etc.
Work closely with the VP of Culture to ensure consistency in the school’s culture of high academic and behavioral achievement through restorative practices and responsive discipline practices
Alongside the Dean of Culture, develop and implement student Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior plans. This will include case managing some students and ensuring interventions take place and are improving student behavior and/or performance
Assist with the implementation of BRICK Roads to Success (I&RS) to ensure a positive, achievement-focused school culture among teachers, staff, students and families
Assist with professional development sessions using the highest leverage adult learning practices
Assist in the coordination and implementation of school programs – ensuring all programs are trauma informed
Participate in grade level meetings
Analyze behavior data to track performance of school wide initiatives and Tier 2 supports
Provide support to students, families, caregivers and staff to ensure all students have the resources they need to achieve their potential
Build and maintain relationships with community partners (i.e. Family Hub and other service providers) as assigned
Assist with the school attendance strategy – including supporting families with chronic absenteeism
Collaborate with School Operations team to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
Manage and respond to progressive discipline referrals
Constructively address problematic behavior
Provide Tier II and Tier III classroom supports
Co-facilitate Restorative Conferences and/or Circles as needed or when requested by Dean of Culture
Create and implement Check-in/Check-out Interventions and other behavior plans
Mentor and support a caseload of students to help them proactively set and meet their goals
Provide a safe space for students to mitigate issues and respond to conflict
Activate small group sessions that address specific SEL (e.g. attendance, anger control)Co-facilitate Reintegration Conferences for students returning from suspension, as needed
Implement positive behavior and rewards systems
Reinforce and maintain the school’s culture of high academic and behavioral achievement through restorative practices and social emotional learning
Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively
Attend and participate in grade level meetings
Collaborate with other culture team members to implement climate and culture activities
Implement creative interventions for students with repeated instances of similar challenges
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
At least two (2) years of working with urban youth
Experience working in mental health, behavioral health, or therapeutic settings is preferred
Case management experience is required
