Under general supervision, responsible for performing technical or narrative research by designing, modifying and collaborating with primary investigator regarding protocol and methodology of research topics.

2 Year - Grant Funded Position

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients utilizing a wide variety of therapeutic techniques to assist patients with the rehabilitation of speech, language, hearing, and oral motor disorders. 
  • Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and auditory skills. 
  • Records speech samples and conducts phonetic analyses of speech ability. 
  • Documents test results an individualized treatment and activities which will enhance the patient's usage of language and ability to communicate. 
  • Confers with associates and institutes treatment utilizing corrective exercises and specialized equipment. 
  • Maintains active support and communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process. 
  • Provides patient and parent/caregiver education and training for home exercise programs. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to assess and develop comprehensive speech programs. 
  • Familiarity with communication disorders. 
  • Ability to build rapport with patients. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Positive and patient demeanor. 
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program

Experience:

  • 1 year professional experience in the areas of voice and neurologically involved patients required, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Must meet the requirements to apply for licensure to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist Intern in the state of Texas.
  • Research experience preferred
  • Parkinson’s Intervention experience preferred
