MULTI MEDIA TECHNICIAN

Pay Level 9 on Classified Salary Schedule

 DEFINITION:

Under supervision by the site administrator, to perform technical and clerical duties within a library and/or computer lab related to the acquisition, processing, cataloging, storage, circulation, and recovery of textbooks, library and reference books, and a variety of other instructional materials and other multi media.   Additionally, assist teachers, students, and other site staff on the proper utilization of computer software and hardware in a computer lab.  Perform basic routine repairs and maintenance on equipment.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist teachers in instructing students in the proper care and operation of computers and district software programs.
  • Catalogue and inventory hardware, software, and computer components in the computer lab.
  • Install instructional software packages.
  • Trouble shoot computers, printers, and other data equipment; refers all non-routine repairs, modifications, and changes to the Technology Department.
  • Maintain a written class schedule for the computer lab.
  • Assist in providing training in basic Internet access and browsing.
  • Maintain the computer lab in a clean and orderly condition; assure the security of the computer lab; store, maintain and account for inventory of hardware, software and related materials; determine and requisition lab supplies as needed.
  • Perform a variety of technical and clerical duties involved with the selection, acquisition, circulation, inventory, maintenance, distribution and storage of books and instructional materials at an assigned school library.
  • Operate a variety of library and media equipment, including copiers and other related equipment; troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
  • Supervise pupils in the library reading area, as required.
  • Inform the staff of all new materials received.
  • Assists pupils and staff in locating materials pertaining to specific subject matter, indexes and reference tools, as required.
  • Handles correspondence for overdue books, lost or damaged books, and library fines, as required.
  • Provides direction to pupil assistants and parent volunteers.
  • Maintains an orderly environment by appropriately arranging books and other thematic displays, and creating child-centered bulletin boards.
  • Repairs and mends damaged books and other instructional materials
  • Prepares book cards, book lists, bibliographies, memoranda, and other similar items, using both manual and computer generated processes.
  • Promote library use through story time, book talks, and parent information letters.
  • Perform related duties as assigned

 KNOWLEDGE OF:

ABILITY TO:
· Provide computer-assisted instruction assistance to individuals or groups of students in a school computer lab.
· Coordinate and schedule the use of the instructional computer lab.
· Operate, demonstrate, maintain and adjust a variety of personal computers and related equipment.
· Respond to questions and assist students and staff as needed with software programs and equipment.
· Reinforce instruction to individuals or small groups of students as directed by the certificated teacher.
· Communicate subject matter in a clear and accurate manner.
· Select programs and related materials appropriate for subject and grade level according to established guidelines.
· Exercise patience, tact and sensitivity with students.
· Understand and follow oral and written directions.
· Work independently with little direction.
· Learn the procedures, functions and limitations of assigned computer lab duties.
· Communicate effectively with students and adults.
· Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
· Observe and control student behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
· Perform a variety of clerical duties, including typing and maintaining records.
· Perform library clerical functions, including circulation and distribution functions;

· Maintain a variety of records and filing systems pertaining to a library media center;

· Utilize a variety of reference resource guides;

· Type or keyboard at a net corrected speed of 25 words per minute;

· Communicate effectively in oral and written form;

· Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential job functions.

· Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 

· This type of work involves sitting for extended periods of time as well as walking and standing for extended periods of time.

· Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, imparting oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and manipulate various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:

Experience:

One year of clerical experience, preferably in a library or instructional materials center; additionally, one year of computer lab technical experience would be preferable

 

Education:

Twelfth grade diploma or the equivalent.*

 

*Candidates applying for this position must have an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree or the equivalent, or 48 college semester units, or otherwise meet the State and Federal qualifications of the No Child Left Behind guidelines.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier.  Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result.
