We have an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance and Facilities Manager with advancement opportunities. This position will be responsible for maintenance of the facility and all equipment within it as well as all major projects including expansion work, facilities refurbishment and technical innovation in production equipment including all facets of each project to include: safety, schedule, budget, successful achievement of all project, equipment and process metrics. This position may be filled at a Senior level based on experience.
- Provide strategic and tactical, day-to-day leadership for the maintenance, facilities and engineering functions focusing on safety of site, key maintenance and engineering metrics and managing department and project costs
- The individual is responsible for training and development of assigned supervisors, engineers and technicians to continuously improve safety, effectiveness and team morale
- Provide the leadership for all equipment, building and process projects to ensure that safety is a top priority by arranging it as a key deliverable for every project and person that works on assigned project
- Organizes the activities of all assigned personnel including contractors, maintenance supervisors, engineering and other PEF employees evaluating work quality and insuring that safety, schedule, budget and performance are achieved through each individual’s efforts
- This person will be responsible for PEF expansion plans including a new extruder, a new foaming line, as well as associated building and web handling equipment. This includes directing Toray Engineering staff to meet PEF needs in equipment design
- This person will be required to execute and lead major capital projects ($7m to $15m) where timely and on budget execution will significantly impact PEF’s profitability and reputation for the next decade as well as enable PEF to meet upcoming customer commitments
- Manages performance of all assigned staff, setting goals and objectives, and reviewing performance regularly to include appropriate recognition and accountability
- Regularly communicates status with senior leadership including performance to key maintenance metrics or RMA goals to include safety, budgetary performance, contractor performance, schedule and / or delivery status
- Ensure a safe and professional work environment is provided for the maintenance and engineering personnel
- Establish KPI’s for maintenance and capital projects to move the department to a continuous improvement mind-set
- Manage spare parts, outside contractors and support by forecasting, establishing budgets and maintaining a balance between production efficiency and preventative maintenance and cost to repair
- This individual will handle all personnel issues for assigned departments including hiring, promoting, performance management, setting standards, training and development
- Preparing and producing necessary reports related to the department’s activities
- Due to the nature of the responsibilities, this person will rotate regular coverage but is expected to respond to major problems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The person is expected to answer calls after work hours from production and night shift maintenance to respond for immediate troubleshooting and managing during troubleshooting
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Strong leadership, troubleshooting and decision-making skills
- Must have 5 years of production or maintenance experience in a leadership role
- At least 5 years of experience in extrusion or foam production is preferred but not required
- Must have a history of successful project execution for projects ranging from $100K to $10m
- Ability to coordinate multiple, concurrent, large, and cross functional projects that compete for the same resources
- Strong project management and tracking skills to include an understanding of industry standard software and management methods such as EVMS, MS project, etc.
- Ability to review PEF Division goals, assess internal status and then develop a roadmap focused on necessary personnel requirements, capital projects and process improvements involving capital in conjunction with GLT members
- Establish and maintain supplier relationships
- Establish and maintain relationships with other internal departments to improve execution and performance of all assigned projects and Engineering tasks. An understanding of equipment qualification and verification methods including safe start-up, risk mitigation and testing and analysis using statistical methods
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation)
- Maintains a positive and motivating team atmosphere for direct and indirect reports
- This individual must have a history of successful execution in safety, financial and schedule performance on difficult projects. It is a high visibility and impact position
- Experience or in-depth knowledge of PLC’s or electrical troubleshooting is a plus
Education & Experience Required:
- Must have BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree (only Engineering program degrees will be considered)
- 1-5 years of experience in similar roles with management experience and experience managing maintenance departments and capital projects in excess of $3m including facilities expansion
- Depending on experience, this position may be filled at the Manager or Senior Manager level
- Six Sigma certification preferred but not required
- Must have exceptional problem solving/troubleshooting skills crossing electrical, mechanical and equipment boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to both lead and work well with other groups – Technical, NPD, Engineering, Maintenance, etc.
- Demonstrated experience in equipment installation and start-ups with a focus on safety as well as utility experience with boilers, HVAC and chilled water units.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts when occasionally required in a hot environment safely
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule requiring nights and weekend when occasionally required
