West Monroe is looking for a GCP Solutions Architect with proven experience designing and implementing cloud-based data and analytics platforms. This role will focus on supporting our Energy & Utilities clients as they evaluate, leverage, migrate to, and build on Google Cloud. What Will You Be Doing?
Client Delivery
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and solution architect on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies, guiding client stakeholders through design decisions, tradeoffs, and migration strategies.
- Compare and contrast Azure, AWS, and GCP capabilities (cost, performance, compliance, analytics/AI) to support informed decision-making.
- Lead the architecture, design, and migration approach for client workloads into GCP, including hybrid and multi-cloud scenarios.
- Lead the greenfield build of modern data platforms that enable analytics, AI, and agentic solutions on GCP by developing architectures that leverage GCP services to support use case specific requirements.
- Understand key differences and overlap in modern data platform capabilities when considering Databricks to complement Google Cloud solutions
- Lead platform cost modeling to provide guidance on O&M budgeting and oversee efforts to identify and capture cost savings in existing capabilities
- Collaborate with data engineers, developers, and business SMEs to ensure architecture aligns with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance on cloud-native services (BigQuery, BigTable, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Looker, Vertex AI, etc.) as well as security, networking, and governance.
- Understand the connection between data governance, data engineering, analytics/AI, and agentic solutions from a holistic delivery perspective.
- Act as a trusted advisor to client leadership, driving alignment across business and IT stakeholders.
Practice Development
- Contribute to the Energy & Utilities practice and Technology & Experience Discipline by developing methodologies, accelerators, and best practices for GCP adoption in regulated utility environments.
- Promote thought leadership around cloud modernization, data platforms, and AI/ML use cases enabled by GCP.
- Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, learning-oriented culture within West Monroe.
Business Development
- Partner with account teams to understand business needs and shape them into technical roadmaps, proposals, and solutions.
- Contribute to client pursuits as a GCP SME, including crafting architecture options, estimates, and risk assessments.
- Build and maintain a professional network in the utilities and cloud ecosystems, strengthening West Monroe’s reputation in the market.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (advanced degrees a plus).
- 8+ years of work experience, including at least 3+ years designing and implementing cloud solutions on GCP.
- Strong understanding of cloud data and analytics architectures, including batch and streaming data pipelines, data warehouses (BigQuery), and AI/ML services (Vertex AI, Agentspace).
- Experience with Azure cloud services and Databricks platform, ability to objectively evaluate Azure vs. GCP tradeoffs inclusive of Databricks deployments
- Proven success leading large-scale cloud migrations or platform builds (design through implementation).
- Familiarity with regulatory/compliance frameworks relevant to utilities (e.g., NERC CIP, data residency, security standards).
- Possess at least one Google Cloud Professional certification: Data Engineer, Cloud Database Engineer, Cloud Architect, Machine Learning Engineer
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to document technical architectures and explain approach and rational to technical resources.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed (up to 50–75% annually).
Nice to have:
- Experience working with large, regulated utilities (familiarity with NERC CIP, PSC, and related compliance requirements).
- Databricks certification (e.g., Data Engineer Associate/Professional, Machine Learning Associate/Professional).
Based on pay transparency guidelines, the salary range for this role can vary based on your proximity to one of our West Monroe offices (see table below). Individual salaries are determined by evaluating a variety of factors including geography, experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
