About the Department
This advanced nursing role is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the Alamance County Health Department Immunization Program.
Position Duties
Program Leadership & Coordination
- Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the Immunization Program
- Develop, implement and manage all aspects of the Refugee Health Program
- Review and develop policies and procedures to meet state contract requirements
- Identify program needs and set goals for improvement and compliance
- Plan, organize, and monitor daily clinic activities
- Review clinic records to ensure compliance with immunization guidelines and patient care standards
- Monitor documentation for accuracy and consistency
- Manage workload distribution and staff productivity
- Ensure accurate coding and billing for Medicaid and insurance reimbursement
- Maintain and inventory vaccine supplies and ensure appropriate storage
- Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service training
- Orient and train new nursing staff and students
- Serve as an immunization resource for health department staff and other agencies
- Coordinate with school nurses and school system staff as needed
- Serve as liaison between the health department and physician offices, medical providers, day cares, refugee resettlement agencies, community agencies, and the public
- Provide immunization education and guidance to families and community partners
- Provide immunizations and related services in clinic 25% of the time or as needed
- Serve as backup to the communicable disease coordinator
- Staff emergency shelters during public health emergencies.

Other Qualifications
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; for employees in expanded role positions, considerable knowledge of, and skill in obtaining a health history and performing physical examinations sufficient enough to determine if there is any deviation from normal; considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and make decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health;
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience; or a Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Registered Nurses without the above work experience may be considered as a work-against for the position.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Valid N.C. driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and experience in adult/children’s vaccinations preferred. Fluent in both Spanish and English both oral and written.
