Responsible for inspecting domestic and export fruit shipments at packinghouse locations in California and/or Arizona. Inspections are made to ensure packinghouses are following State, Federal, USDA and customer requirements. Works closely with shippers and other inspectors to maintain fresh fruit quality and consistency between shippers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Inspect fruit at packinghouses for quality and condition giving fair and unbiased assessment in applying applicable grade standards.
• Interact with packinghouse personnel to provide advice and guidance on quality assurance issues.
• Consult with packinghouse personnel for disposition of violations including follow-up inspections.
• Perform on tree certifications in growing areas for shipper’s tree crop estimates.
• Test new packaging for adherence to Sunkist and CDFA regulations.
• Perform maturity tests on various citrus varieties for sugar to acid ratios.
• Inspect specific orders at individual packinghouses for compliance as directed by sales personnel.
• Monitor individual shipper claims on a weekly basis to focus inspection activities.
• Report individual fruit inspection data through the Clarifruit electronic inspection database.
• Travel within the U.S, Canada and overseas for market inspections.
• Maintains regular and timely attendance.
• Accomplishes human resource department and organization mission by completing related results as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experiences, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- 3 to 5 years in sales or production experience in the produce industry.
- High School or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License and passport.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of Sunkist, Federal and State grade and packaging requirements.
- Possesses knowledge of domestic and export Sunkist, State and USDA grade standards and applications.
- Ability to segregate individual lots to determine extent of violations.
- Possesses knowledge of Sunkist and CDFA packaging regulations and the proper applications.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in matters pertaining to Quality Assurance.
- Possesses strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills to effectively communicate with packinghouse personnel.
- Ability to develop and apply problem solving techniques.
- Possesses skills in interpreting a shipping manifest.
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team toward meeting department goals
