About the role

As our new Principal Lawyer for Corporate & Commercial, you’ll play a crucial role in effectively managing V/Line’s Corporate and Commercial legal work and legal risks.

Reporting to the Director - Legal, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include understanding the pressure points, strategy and objectives of V/Line’s business, and providing outcomes-focussed legal, commercial and contractual advice.  It will involve effective communication of legal risks and issues involved in any decision to internal clients.

The role requires the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external. You’ll also have the opportunity to provide day to day supervision, leadership and management to junior lawyers in the Legal team.

As well as performing duties specified in this position description, an employee may be required to undertake other duties or functions consistent with their classification, capabilities, and skills.

 

About you

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • 5+ years legal practicing experience within a Corporate and Commercial environment

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law

  • Hold (or eligible to immediately hold) current Legal Practising Certificate

  • Proven experience managing/mentoring junior legal professionals

  • Strong contract interpretation and drafting skills

  • Established experience building relationships and effectively communicating with a variety of stakeholders, at all levels of seniority

  • Demonstrated experience within Government (highly desirable)

 

Remuneration for this position is commensurate to the successful candidate’s aligned skills and experience to the position.

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023 / Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2023).
