Job Title: Sustainable Farming Intern
Reports To: Farm Supervisor / Site Mentor
Job Type: Paid Internship 40-60 hours
Grade Level: 12th Grade or Post High School Program
Job Overview:
The sustainable farming intern will assist with daily operations at a local farm, with a focus on environmentally responsible practices. Interns will assist with planting, harvesting, composting, and caring for crops while learning how sustainable agriculture is connected to community health and global environmental issues. This internship provides students with hands-on experience in agriculture and food systems, offering opportunities to reflect on how farming relates to their postsecondary and career goals.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting crops.
- Support sustainable practices, including composting, soil care, and waste reduction.
- Help prepare and distribute farm produce to the community.
- Model safe and professional work habits outdoors and with equipment.
- Complete a reflection project connecting sustainable farming to personal goals and postsecondary plans (e.g., environmental science, food systems, or business).
Qualifications:
- Salem High School 12th-grade scholar in good standing.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Dependable, responsible, and committed to sustainable practices.
- Interest in environmental studies, agriculture, or community health.
