Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute the education curriculum for all students in the classroom.
- Meet with Director and teachers to discuss the implementation of curriculum goals for individual students.
- Foster an environment that supports individual achievement, team spirit and leadership.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students.
- Demonstrate and utilize appropriate guidance techniques, behavior supports, and classroom management skills.
- Report any suspected child abuse/neglect to the Hotline; as well as administration.
- Confer with parents, administrators, teachers, social worker, and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
- Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons and activities and communicate those objectives to students.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students within their individual needs.
- Modify the curriculum and activities for each individual based on their special-needs, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques.
- Instruct students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and other health related habits (i.e. eating preparation).
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Work a flexible schedule as required.
- Ensure the safety of all staff, volunteers, visitors and individuals receiving services at Easter Seals.
- Act in compliance with Medical and Non-Medical Emergency Procedures.
- Assist individuals in evacuating building during emergency situations to include but not limited to: fire drills and external disaster drills. Specific duties to be assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Assume assigned responsibility for non-clinical duties during disaster and/or drills including but not limited to safety of files/office areas, closure of doors.
- Participate in continuous agency wide quality and performance improvement and comply with all Quality Improvement requirements.
- Other related duties as necessary may be assigned to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of agency.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree required, Bachelors preferred
- Teaching experience working with young children with disability or with special needs.
