Intern, Archive
The MPR Archive preserves, maintains, and makes accessible the physical and digital broadcast recordings and history of the regional services of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR). As the Archive intern, you will assist the Archive in its mission to make this history accessible to our audiences and the public by working with the Archive team to digitize print collections vital for team reference and research, create and assign metadata, and develop associated digital collection. Such work will ensure that our catalog records and contents are accurate and complete, as well as easily findable by staff and audience members, both internally and externally. This essential work supports the MPR Archive in making the unique collections of MPR findable and accessible to the greater public, which has been broadcasting significant news and cultural programming since 1972.
Key Learning Goals:
The goal of this internship is to provide you with immersive learning and real-world experience through impactful work. At the end of your internship, you will have:
- Gained experience handling archival materials
- Developed familiarity with digitization and preservation practices
- Developed understanding of archival and digital collections workflows
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will:
- Digitize the Preview publication collection
- Organize the digital assets and assign basic metadata
- Prepare the new digital collection for publication on internal and public Archives webpages

Programming:
- Participate in robust on-boarding experience

Required Qualifications:
- Students who are currently enrolled and have completed one year of their post-secondary program, are enrolled in a graduate program, or have earned a degree in the last 18 months
- Able to work 9:00 - 5:00pm central; Monday - Friday
- Basic understanding of foundational archival concepts
- Basic understanding of/ability to navigate digital collections databases
- Proficiency with common computer applications
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
