Job Title: Port Operations Manager 

Reports To: Director of Operations

Work Schedule: Standard 40hr workweek, early am/evenings and weekends as needed. 

Position Type: On-Site Full-Time @FreshPac Location

FLSA Status: Exempt 

Compensation: (DOE)


Position Summary: The Port Operations Manager is responsible for collaborating with the Category Managers to ensure all imported product moves through the supply chain efficiently and accurately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

· Collaborate with the Category Managers and Director of Operations to ensure business needs
are met for operations on imported commodities.

· Develop and execute strategies related to the operations and logistics of import commodities.

· Oversee Dayka Hackett East Coast Operations Team personnel, including but not limited those
involved with container movement, repacking, logistic coordination, etc.

· Maintain relationships with 3PL facilities being utilized for imported product.

· Actively participate in supply and demand discussions related to imported commodities.

· Develop strategies and processes to communicate operational challenges with grower services in order to minimize claims.

Supervisory Responsibility 

  • Management of Managers and Supervisors at facility

Required Education and Experience

· Experience in import operations, specifically on fresh product/fruit.

· Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

Skills

· Proficiency in import operations, practices, and procedures.

· Business acumen, including budgeting, financial management, and market analysis.

· Knowledge of federal, state, and local agricultural regulations.

· Bilingual in English and Spanish is often preferred.

Experience: 

· 5-7 years of experience in the fruit industry, with a strong understanding of fruit sourcing, quality control, and market dynamics.

· Experience working with both domestic and international suppliers and buyers.

· Knowledge of seasonality and perishability of different types of fruits.

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree: Preferably in Business Administration, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

· Additional Certifications: Courses or certifications in food safety, quality control, and import/export regulations can be advantageous.


General Physical Demands:

Mobility and Travel:

· Frequent Travel: Ability to travel frequently both domestically and internationally to visit suppliers, attend trade shows, and meet with clients. This includes long periods of time spent on planes, in cars, and in other modes of transportation.

· Site Visits: Regular visits to orchards, packing facilities, and distribution centers, which may involve walking long distances, standing for extended periods, and navigating uneven terrain.

Handling and Inspection:

· Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally lifting and carrying boxes of fruit or samples, typically weighing up to 25-30 pounds.

· Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and inspect fruit samples, requiring good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Office Work:

· Seated Work: Extended periods of sitting while working at a computer, attending virtual meetings, and completing paperwork.

· Computer Use: Frequent use of computers, which involves repetitive motions such as typing and using a mouse.

Warehouse and Storage Facilities:

· Temperature Variations: Exposure to different temperature conditions when visiting field, refrigerated storage facilities or warehouses.

· Climbing: Occasionally climbing ladders or steps to access stored products.

Field Work:

· Outdoor Conditions: Working outdoors in varying weather conditions when inspecting fields, orchards, or packing operations.

Health and Safety:

· Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use of appropriate PPE when required, such as gloves, safety glasses, and protective footwear.

· Safety Protocols: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines, especially in packing and storage facilities.

Visual and Sensory Requirements:

· Visual Acuity: Good visual acuity to inspect fruit quality and detect any defects or issues.

· Sensory Evaluation: Ability to use sensory skills such as taste and smell to assess fruit quality.

Communication:

· Clear Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and via email, which is essential for coordinating with suppliers, clients, and team members.
