Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, including or supplemented by technical or vocational education related to environmental health science.
- Two (2) years of experience in environmental health science and construction, some of which shall have been in review and inspection activities associated with construction, modification, or energy improvement projects, in a lead role.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, procedures, and equipment used in environmental and occupational safety.
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) regulations.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of employee and construction safety.
- Knowledge of accident investigative and review techniques.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to conduct inspections.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, applicable building codes, and regulations, and recognize deviations from such requirements.
- Ability to conduct safety-related training.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare complete and concise written reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
- OSHA 510 course: Standards for the Construction Industry.
- OSHA 40 hour training in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
- OSHA 30 hour training in Construction.

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Identifies safety and environmental issues and deficiencies at renovations and construction sites.
- Prepares and maintains site-specific safety assessment reports.
- Evaluates the chemical products used by contractors, storage, and disposal.
- Maintains environmental/safety assessment reports.
- Recommends, maintains, and calibrates environmental monitoring equipment.
- Conducts environmental hazard evaluation sample collection and analysis techniques.
- Orders and maintains safety signage at construction sites.
- Assists in summer and occupied time egress.
- Evaluates products for hazardous substances and makes recommendations regarding use.
- Measures indoor air quality for contaminants, collects samples, analyzes data, and makes recommendations.
- Monitors school facilities for the presence of hazardous substances.
- Coordinates the evaluation of emissions and indoor exposure to electromagnetic fields.
- Assists in publishing safety newsletters and manuals.
- Assists in construction safety training.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
