TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers and Interns are an essential component in assisting ACHIEVE with meeting its mission and vision. Volunteers give time and resources to the agency and in return learn new skills and receive satisfaction knowing that they have made a positive contribution to the agency and to the lives of individuals with disabilities. Tasks may include assisting with program or department activities, sharing a skill or talent, or participating in agency activities/projects. Volunteers/Interns are not expected to provide assistance with personal hygiene, carry out specialized treatment strategies or intervene in behavioral crises. A Volunteer/Intern may have approved unsupervised contact with individual after completing required training and full background checks. Hours of service will be logged. Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1.Maintains information, received or learned during the course of involvement, in a strict confidential manner in keeping with agency policy, federal and state law.
Attends agency provided training as required.
Assists staff with various tasks or activity development and preparation.
Supports staff or individuals served with participating in activities.
Accompanies individuals served on outings, with oversight of staff per assignment need.
Leads activities in areas of interest and/or skill.
May be assigned other tasks by a Program Director/Designee
Additionally the Agency and the Intern/Volunteer understands and agrees to the following per the US-Fair Labor Standards Act:
An internship, though it includes actual operation of the agency, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment ;
The volunteer/internship experience is for the benefit of the volunteer/intern;
The volunteer/intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff;
The agency derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the volunteer/intern; and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded;
The volunteer/intern is not necessarily entitled to a position with the agency at the conclusion of the volunteer/internship; and
The agency and the volunteer/intern understand that the volunteer/intern is not entitled to wages for the time spent in the volunteer/internship.

- An interest in supporting individuals with disabilities and /or the agency
- Meet any required agency or regulatory background check requirements
