About the Department

Performs a wide variety of tasks to support administrative, financial, budget, inspections and operations for the department, divisions, boards, commissions and special projects.

Full salary range for this position is $55,910 - $96,179

Position Duties

  1. Prepare and maintain journals, subsidy account records for accounts receivable invoices, cash receipts, deposits, and escrow revenue payments;
  2. Prepare accounting and procurement documents, vendor records, purchase orders, accounts payable invoices, and conference and convention travel training expense reimbursement forms;
  3. Assist personnel in compiling and analyzing financial, statistical and operational data for specialized technical reports;
  4. Assist with compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual operational financial data for escrow revenue account reconciliation reports;
  5. Receive, maintain and reimburse Overlot Grading, Stormwater Management and Critical Area Planting agreement posted bonds;
  6. May assist in preparation of budget submission;
  7. Assist with reconciling financial records for year-end audit;
  8. Generate data for preparation of trial balances, and general ledgers, and maintain various double entry records;
  9. Serve as a resource person to citizens by answering questions and providing
  10. documents regarding rules and regulations for bond releases;
  11. Assist with department historical scanning and archiving project
  12. Answer phones and direct callers appropriately when Inspections Coordinator and/or Front Desk Office Specialist are absent or unavailable;
  13. Performs weekly bank run for department deposits;
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ability to operate relevant computer software and other office equipment;
  2. Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
  3. Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public;
  4. Knowledge of general governmental accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures;
  5. Accurately and efficiently prepare and maintain basic budgetary, fiscal and cost accounting records and reports;
  6. Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to follow through with assigned tasks;
  7. Organize work and setting priorities to meet deadlines and working within time constraints;
  8. Create and maintain complex financial spreadsheets in Excel;
  9. Expert knowledge in compiling , computing, and presenting basic statistical information.

Other Qualifications

  1. Associate's degree;
  2. Three years or more of job-related experience, or
  3. Equivalent technical training, education, and experience.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms.
