Description

  

The Design Engineer creates, develops and tests products such as machines, tools and sensors. They solve problems by applying the principles of physics, chemistry and mechanics to the real world. They also collect data on prototype performance and supervise the manufacturing process for their designs.


  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Study plans for upcoming generation of engineering models and develop strategies for improving upon current models.
  • Design equipment using CAD and consults with engineering and manufacturing teammates to ensure that designs are feasible.
  • Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function.
  • Record, evaluate, and report testing data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance and efficiency standards.
  • Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing physical assistance when required.
  • Calculate cost estimates for final product designs, and release reports to supervisors, incorporating costs of labor, material, delivery and overhead.
  • Attend team meetings to provide progress reports, obtain updates on colleagues’ progress, strategize on steps for following week and acquire information about projected emerging product lines.
  • Analyzes and interprets data and provides technical advice.
  • Other assignments as requested.




Requirements

  

  • Requires a multidisciplined background with a focus on mechanical engineering and production operations. 
  • Demonstrates ability to self-motivate and to problem solve in a fast-paced setting. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Investigative mind inclined toward developing practical solutions to real-world problems.
  • A proven understanding of part and Quality workmanship.
  • Communication skills - must have good listening skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication abilities. 
  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience/knowledge of 3D CAD. Solidworks a plus.
  • Knowledge of machine logic programming a plus.

Working conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high requiring safety equipment to be utilized.

Physical requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Candidate must be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the job utilizing arms, hands, and fingers to perform complex functions of manufacturing parts and performing other duties of the job; e.g., standing, sitting, walking throughout the facility and stairs, bending, squatting, and kneeling, etc.
  • Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 32lbs (females) and 50lbs (males) preferred. 

 

Pay rate: $80,000 - $100,000/year

The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.
