What will you be doing in your role?
- Assist clients by removing barriers to class attendance by conducting follow-up and communicating with clients’ case managers as appropriate.
- Help clients download and access the online platform for their ESL class.
- Refer clients to case management, employment, and other support services as needed, as well as community ESL classes when they can no longer attend.
- Effectively document barrier removal, follow up and referrals in the agency database in a timely manner.
- Help deliver books and class materials to clients as needed.
- Be flexible with your tasks and time to help the team as needed.
- Substitute teach for ESL classes as needed and create a fun, positive, welcoming and culturally sensitive learning environment
- Conduct ESL classes and create a fun, positive, welcoming, and culturally sensitive learning environment as needed.
- Understand what refugees have been through as well as their various cultural backgrounds and work to meet their unique needs.
- Work well with volunteers, as needed.
- Plan effective lessons for refugee adults, including both literate and pre-literate students based on survival English needs as needed.
- Meet your commitments and effectively manage your administrative duties.
- Work collaboratively with other Refugee Education team members to support the overall goals of the team.
Are you the next ESL Support Specialist?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field and one-year experience in teaching ESL, or a combination of education and experience preferred.
- Familiarity with refugee populations and their needs preferred.
- Good computer skills required.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Must have reliable transportation, a current Texas driver’s license.

- Full-time position with a starting hourly rate of $20, based on minimum job requirements. Pay is determined by relevant experience, work history, education and internal equities.
