Description
Under the general direction of the agency’s Clinical Director, the Detox Counselor is responsible for providing direct client care and group therapy sessions for clients enrolled in inpatient detoxification services. The Detox Counselor also maintains a safe and efficient working and treatment environment per company policies, procedures and best practices; communicates effectively with the treatment team to ensure safe, quality care is provided to all clients.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provides direct support services to include engaging clients in Group Therapy, topics related to recovery, health and wellness promotion, crisis management, and life skills.
2. Conducts assessments or screenings with clients to evaluate the nature of their presenting problems in order to determine their needs and develop appropriate treatment plan goals.
3. Has responsibility for intake documentation. Prepares progress notes, event notifications, and other documentation regarding clients in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures.
4. Facilitates coordination of care to include case review, therapeutic interventions, and
client progress in treatment.
5. Completes other tasks, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Have a Bachelor’s degree and licensed in TN in a field related to Behavioral Health as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) level II
• Previous experience to include: individual and group counseling and treatment planning
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND ATTITUDES REQUIRED
1. Knowledge of software programs for personal computer use, especially word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
2. Knowledge and experience in counseling and case management with substance abuse clients.
3. Ability to prepare, implement, and analyze bio-psycho-social assessments.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, establishing, and maintaining effective working relationships, gaining cooperation, and resolving conflicts.
6. Ability to plan and organize case workload, manage deadlines of him/herself.
7. Ability to maintain and demonstrate ethical professional standards and demeanor, including the confidentiality of employee and client data, client boundaries, and other sensitive information.
8. Demonstrated competence with, and continued commitment to respect for cultural differences and diversity, protecting client rights.
9. Recognition of the limits of one’s own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support, as needed.
10. Makes clinical and organizational decisions with the clients’ and agency wellbeing and best interests in mind.
11. Provide treatment that promotes client dignity, independence, individuality, strength, privacy, and choice, recognizing the unique needs of the client population served by the agency.
12. Provide the behavioral health services that the agency is authorized to provide and that the staff member is qualified to provide.
13. Recognize obvious symptoms of a mental disorder, personality disorder, or substance abuse.
14. Recognize, prevent, and respond to a situation in which the client may be a danger to himself or others, behaves in an aggressive or destructive manner, is experiencing a crisis or medical emergency.
15. Recognize and respond to fire, disaster, hazard, and medical emergency
16. Has completed all the requirements above and is documented in application in training including the ability to pass background checks and urinalysis screens required by Knoxville Recovery Centers.
