Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, 89 day hire, not to exceed 30 hours/week. Hours may vary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Athletics Director, the Media Rights Advisor will be responsible for media rights initiatives, strategic planning and special projects for the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics Department (UHMAD).
- Assists the Athletics Director with special projects for UHMAD.
- Serves as liaison to review and evaluate the media rights for the department.
- Develops new strategies and enhancements to increase revenue and visibility.
- Collaborates with the University of Hawai‘i to identify priorities to eliminate threats in the changing world of media rights and formulates strategies that creates opportunities for he UHMAD to advance these priorities.
- Cultivates and maintains effective relations with the private sector and various governmental bodies to promote and advance the support for the UHMAD.
- Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
- Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other University offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
- Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated Conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
- Other duties as directed by the Athletics Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in communication, business administration, sports management, or related field.
- Three (3) years management experience in media production, broadcasting, or digital media, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated successful and responsible participation in fundraising and marketing programs.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate contracts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to create a climate of positive media relations.
- Knowledge of both traditional and digital media platforms.
- Knowledge of the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive sports environment.
- Knowledge of solicitation principles and practices.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations and University administrative policies and procedures which relate to contract negotiation and bidding process.
- Demonstrated commitment to and thorough understanding of full compliance with the NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations.
- Ability to understand and work effectively in Hawai'i's multi-cultural society.
- Sensitivity and perceptiveness necessary to function successfully in a multicultural environment.
