Your Impact 

The Kitchen Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and surrounding areas. This role supports the kitchen staff by ensuring all kitchenware, equipment, and work areas are clean and organized. The Kitchen Utility Worker also assists with receiving and storing supplies and may help with basic food preparation tasks.

Job Specific Duties 

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen, café, nursing units, patient pantries, soiled utility rooms, storerooms, and Physician Lounge.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Ensure proper storage of kitchen supplies and food items, following First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures.
  • Assist in receiving and unpacking deliveries, verifying items against invoices.
  • Dispose of trash and waste in designated areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate levels of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Identify and utilize cleaning chemicals following directions recommended by the manufacturer and per Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Follow all safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as needed.
  • Complete temperature and safety logs as they relate to the utility position, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Follow food and physical safety guidelines as outlined in the company's policies, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies, including the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Joint Commission, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Adhere to the department's infection control policies and procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Follow the facility's protocols for the hazardous materials and waste program, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the kitchen manager or supervisor.

What you will need  

  • Previous experience in a similar role is a plus, but not required.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with others.

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • Basic knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation practices.

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out directions given in written or oral form. Ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and compute ratios and percent's.

  • Must have a valid California Food Handlers Certification or will obtain within seven days of hire.

  • Successful candidates must meet eligibility criteria, including the ability to undergo and successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen in accordance with applicable State laws and regulations. 
  • Ability to provide documents for work authorization. We utilize E-Verify, an online system that allows us to confirm the eligibility of our employees to work in the United States. 
  • High School Diploma/GED 

Physical and Sensory Requirements 

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach frequently.
  • Manual dexterity to handle kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid environment.
  • Work indoors 80% | Work outdoors 20%
