About the Department
The Billings & Collections Department is seeking a Financial Technician II. Applicant must possess strong computer skills with the ability to learn quickly. Detail-oriented. Possess excellent problem solving and communication skills - verbal and written. Follow procedures and multi-task in a high paced work environment. Handle frequent interruptions and work independently without direct supervision. Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment. Self-motivated and a reliable team player.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- Handles large amounts of money in the collection of payments, fees and taxes;
- Completes daily transaction reports and balances receipts;
- Collects personal property, real estate, and utility payments over the counter and through the mail and other revenues;
- Utilize cashiering software to complete payment transactions and the ability to learn and use departmental software applications;
- Ability to read and understand documents such as standard operating procedures, bills and other financial records and prepare forms, correspondence, and reports;
- Uses judgement to locate accounts and processes payments manually and in computer system in the manner prescribed by State law, City code and office procedures.
- Receives, verifies, and processes manually and in computer system all monies collected by other City departments and offices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all City-related business;
- Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
- Communicate effectively with a diverse customer base.
- Ability to remain composed, diplomatic, and positive when working under pressure.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly with accuracy.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Graduation from High School
• 2 years of full-time teller or cashier experience handling large sums of money (in excess of $10,000 daily) in finance, banking, collections, or a closely related industry.
Other Qualifications
Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
Relevant background must be completed and approved.
