POSTITION OVERVIEW
The Manger, Supply Chain Management is partly responsible within the given Matrix organization for developing and implementing the strategic direction for SMA America. This covers the daily operations as well as the strategic approaches for inbound and outbound transportation, purchasing and inventory management with certain availability/levels. This position covers $20- $25M of annual carrier and 3rd party logistics service spend with a clear focus on internal process optimization, external service time issues, cost reduction projects and developing KPI’s. Together with Procurement, this position is responsible for supplier quoting, route awards and cost reductions. This position is also responsible for the intercompany purchasing and the alignment with the global inventory strategy that encompasses purchases of over 150M and inventory of over $40M. An integral part is the preparing and leading of supplier meetings, negotiations, QBRs. Development of own PIs which are aligned with the company targets and the global score card. Regular presentation of PI’s covering transportation, purchasing and inventory availability/levels. The position is in charge for the most productive operational set up internal as well optimizing the interfaces with the other stakeholders. The training and development of the Transportation and the Purchasing staff has another focus.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategy development and execution for America’s end-to-end supply chain: from suppliers to customers.
- Lead the weekly Sales and Operations Meeting for the region, including interface with Sales, Order Management, Finance, Marketing, Service, and Legal
- Closely collaborate with HQ in Germany with Production planning; Order Management and Global Logistics to ensure regional needs are met.
- Assurance of material availability and high inventory turns (DOH) in a volatile environment to meet on-time (OTIF) and lead-time goals.
- Work collaboratively with international colleagues to ensure the Americas Region supports the global, functional processes, while negotiating adaptations as required to meet regional business needs.
- Development, simulation and implementation of best excellence planning, purchasing, logistics, order management and delivery processes as well as network optimization.
- Active role in the Project management for transportation, purchasing, and supply chain strategy for the America Region.
- Management of regional teams. In deep analysis and further development of the processes and techniques used in daily operations by the internal and external team members.
- Provide direction, development and leadership of the Transportation and Purchasing Departments, while also functioning as the Americas Region Supply Chain Manager.
- Develop, propose and implement the strategic direction for all Americas transportation aligned with Global Logistics.
- This includes supplier selection activities, route configurations along with ensuring the team executes on daily operational activities.
- Manage relationship with TMS system vendor and carriers and determine best configuration and usage to optimize freight spend time-in-transit and other service parameters. Develop and implement and execute the invoicing / invoice auditing process according to the compliance rules.
- Works with international carriers and freight forwarders to streamline the flow of goods across international borders and through customs. Ensure company is importing/exporting in compliance with US laws and regulations.
- Leads U.S. Import/export compliance efforts on behalf of SMA.
- Analyze production plans, lead times, safety stocks and lot sizes to determine resource requirements and constraints.
- Develop the calculation parameters on which SAP is calculating the reordering
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to support supplier communication, demand forecasts and new products introductions, including participation in Sales meetings and S&OP planning.
- Other duties as may be required or assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree. Emphasis in Supply Chain Management / Logistics preferred
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Several years of work experience on a senior level within Global Supply Chain Management
- Proven leadership skills strongly preferred, including time management, motivating, scheduling, and conflict resolution
- Preferred previous international experience
- Customs training ongoing
