Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to provide information concerning Unified Government Clarke County Sheriff’s Office. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the development and management of the Sheriff’s Office website and to promote transparency within the community in regards to all Sheriff’s Office operations, investigations, services and incidents of public interest through the use of social media, press releases, and other channels in assisting with programming of government access television channel; drafting news releases; researching, developing, and preparing information for dissemination; taking photos and maintaining image file of government activities; assisting with special events and special projects; developing audio-visual presentation and scripts; designing and developing publications and electronic communications; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Job Related Requirements
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Will also be required to work on some evenings and may be required to work occasionally on weekends. May also work during emergency situations.
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
Emergency Position
This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Sheriff.
Position Duties
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Digital Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related field with two years of public relations, communications, digital media production or related experience required, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provide the efficient operation of a Public Information Media Analyst in connection with and under the supervision of the Sheriff.
Create multimedia content for sheriff office social media channels using photo, video, graphic design, animation, and new and emerging technologies.
Maintain, update, and grow sheriff office social media channels.
Create flyers, annual reports, and similar printed items to internal and external audiences.
Prepare news releases and social media posts regarding sheriff incidents, special events, programs or meetings as needed.
Prepare various presentations using a variety of technologies.
Take photographs and record video videos at special events, ceremonies, community sheriff events, and other events as assigned; stream events to Facebook live or similar outlets.
Ability to edit photos and videos.
Update departmental web site.
Respond to requests for information from officials, employees, members of the staff, the public, news media, or other individuals; use departmental records management system to locate and disseminate information to the same.
Public speaking; ability to speak in front of groups, reporters, or press conferences.
Establish and maintain files of news releases, newspaper articles, and other public information documents as required; routes copies of articles relating to significant sheriff’s incidents to sheriff leadership.
Establish, maintain and provide upkeep for items of historical value to the Sheriff office.
Prepare routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, special cards, reports and other documents via computer and/or typewriter.
Answer the telephone; provide information; take and relay messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; return calls as necessary.
Communicate with media and citizens about inmate concerns, civil and warrant disputes etc.; answers questions about local and state laws.
Supervises and coordinates a variety of activities, programs, and special projects within the government to promote employee and community relations.
Conducts on-camera interviews and responds to specific questions from the media during critical events without the opportunity to confer with the Sheriff, Chief Deputy or the Command Duty Officer for guidance.
Publicizes, promotes, and markets the varied programs, events, and incidents of the Clarke County Sheriff Office using a variety of outlets such as news releases, newsletters, social media, departmental website, brochures, speeches, consumer publications, radio and television appearances, in-house videos, news conferences, community presentations, and slide shows.
Interacts with professional and technical staff, community groups, other government agencies, businesses, and other sources to keep the public informed of pertinent incidents, situations or events; prepares and distributes statements; conducts in-person television, radio, or newspaper interviews as requested; provides media coaching to staff as needed.
Coordinates with the Sheriff, Chief Deputy or Command Staff, and other appropriate Sheriff’s Office personnel to develop news releases related to events of public interest.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the terminology used in the field of public relations.
Knowledge of the elements of the graphic design and printing processes, including layout techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively by written and oral means.
Ability to develop and deliver public presentations.
Ability to compile, organize, prepare, and maintain an assortment of records, reports, and information in an effective manner and according to office and/or governmental regulations.

Other Qualifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, typewriter, copier, fax, camera, tape recorder, and calculator. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects or materials. This position requires: walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.

MOTOR COORDINATION: May require the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using a computer, typewriter, copier, fax, camera, tape recorder, and calculator. Requires the ability to use the keyboard, lift, bend, push, and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as a computer, typewriter, copier, fax, camera, tape recorder, and calculator. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating the other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: May require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency.
